Archbishop Zinkula’s Letter for the 2026 Annual Appeal
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Across Northeast Iowa, many of our neighbors are facing profound hardship as they strive to keep their families safe, housed, and fed. In a world that too often overlooks their struggles, they carry heavy burdens and quietly seek reassurance that they are not alone. This reality places an important question before us: How will our generosity help lift up our brothers and sisters in Christ who face these challenges each day? For generations, Catholic Charities has faithfully answered that call. Rooted in the principles of Catholic Social Teaching, its dedicated staff and volunteers offer consistent, compassionate care that upholds human dignity and strengthens families. In moments of uncertainty and crisis, Catholic Charities is a trusted presence that offers stability, hope, and a path forward.
Because of the generosity of donors like you, Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Dubuque served more than 26,000 individuals across Northeast Iowa last year alone. Each number represents a person, a family, a story of need met with mercy. Yet the need continues. Many still seek assistance, stability, and encouragement. I invite you to walk with us in faith as we continue this sacred work together.
Our Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV, reminds us in his Apostolic Exhortation, “Dilexi te,” that Christ is present in those who are poor and suffering: “On the wounded faces of the poor, we see the suffering of the innocent and, therefore, the suffering of Christ Himself.” By walking alongside those in need with compassion, we answer this call. We bear witness to the enduring power of hope and affirm the God-given dignity of every person. May the Holy Spirit guide and sustain us in this mission of charity and justice. I am deeply grateful for your generosity, your prayers, and your steadfast commitment to serving our brothers and sisters who are so precious to Christ. Together, may we continue to be instruments of His love and mercy in our Archdiocese.
